Mike Turner, the U.S. representative of Ohio's 10th Congressional District, highlighted the expansion and technological enhancement of Kettering Health's Cassano Center for community residency on Aug. 11. He emphasized that this update benefits the community and is situated in his home state of Ohio.
"The Victor J. Cassano Health Center is among Dayton’s largest providers of primary and specialty care," Turner tweeted. "I supported @KetteringHealth's efforts to secure $1.25 million in federal funding for the Cassano Health Center."
The Kettering Health Cassano Health Center recently increased its clinical space by about 25%, added new behavioral health providers and updated its technology for its residency program through a $4 million renovation, the Daytona Daily News reported. The funds for improvements to this 20,000-square-foot health center included $2.5 million from the Grandview Foundation and $1.25 million in federal funds.
“I participated 20 years ago when they were choosing this location and seeking some federal funds to help in the opening of this facility,” Turner said, according to the report. “It’s nice to be able to participate in the funding call for the renovation of this facility.”
In fiscal year 2022, Turner helped secure $1.25 million in direct federal funding for the Cassano Health Center’s facility upgrade. The funds specifically came from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration.
The Cassano Health Center is among Dayton's largest providers of primary and specialty care as well as wraparound social services to the underserved members of the Miami Valley community, a press release reported. This facility is staffed by Kettering Health Dayton (formerly Grandview Hospital) resident physicians and their attending trainers and makes certain that marginalized groups have access to ongoing medical care and the specialists that they need.
In 2003, Turner was instrumental in securing federal funding that supported the original construction of the Cassano Health Center.
In January of 2011, Turner was appointed chairman of the U.S. Delegation to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Parliamentary Assembly, the inter-parliamentary organization of legislators from the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance. In December of 2014, Turner was elected president of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. He now serves as vice-chairman of the Defense and Security Committee of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, according to his website.
