State Representatives Adam Mathews (R-Lebanon) and Tom Young (R-Washington Twp.) have announced the passage of House Bill 331 in the Ohio House. The legislation aims to ensure villages provide proper services for their residents and field candidates for their elected offices.

The bill establishes a process for village dissolution following each decennial census. After the census, county budget commissions will audit each village within their counties to assess the status of village services and elected offices. If these audits fail, a question of dissolution will automatically be placed on the ballot for the next general election.

"Villages are important and have a real duty to their citizens," Mathews stated. "This bill ensures our voters have control to keep our local governments accountable."

Young added, "It’s important that we enact this type of process in our state that will make sure that our villages are delivering good government for Ohioans."

The legislation now moves to the Senate for further consideration.
