The Beavercreek Police Department would like to make residents aware of an ongoing issue involving blue collection boxes outside of local post offices. Our department has received numerous reports of mail theft involving these outdoor mailboxes. If you are paying bills by mail and have utilized the blue boxes in the past, we encourage you to begin delivering your outgoing mail to the drop off stations inside the post office.
Thieves are stealing mail and changing the amount and payee information on checks. This is an ongoing problem and several people in various jurisdictions have been arrested. There appears to be a large group of people involved in this operation, including some from out of state. Again, we encourage you to stop using the blue boxes when mailing negotiable items, i.e. cash and checks. If you have any questions and/or concerns, please contact the Beavercreek Police Department by calling (937) 426-1225.
