State Representative Phil Plummer has introduced a new piece of legislation, House Bill 210, aimed at addressing the issue of catalytic converter thefts. "Catalytic converter theft has plagued our communities for some time," said Plummer, who represents Dayton. He emphasized the financial strain that such thefts place on both individuals and businesses, adding, "It is now time to hold these individuals accountable."

The proposed bill would increase penalties associated with the theft of catalytic converters. Additionally, it seeks to impose stricter penalties on receiving stolen property when it involves catalytic converters. The bill also calls for scrap metal dealers to adhere to specific recordkeeping and reporting requirements, among other measures.

House Bill 210 is set to undergo further evaluation in committee.
