City of Beavercreek Ohio - Municipal Government issued the following announcement on March 19.
Today marks 63 years since eight Girl Scouts and two of their leaders were killed by a train in Beavercreek.
On March 18, 1959, the girls and leaders of Troop 133 went to Xenia Library to do research for a badge. On their way home, their car was struck by a train while crossing the railroad tracks along Factory Road (the site of the current bike trail). The collision took the lives of everyone in the car.
Today, they are all remembered through a memorial at Angel’s Pass Park, located along Factory Road.
This memorial includes a stone with all of their names placed in front of the flagpoles at the center of the park. There are eight benches circling the stone, one for each girl in the troop.
